Halloween Cheese Recipes with Charcoal Cheddar
Share
If you like your cheese with a little more drama, October’s Cheese of the Month could be right up your street.
Meet our Charcoal Cheddar Truckle: a striking black cheddar made with mature cheese and activated charcoal. It might look unusual, but underneath that dramatic colour is the rich, savoury mature cheddar flavour you know and love.
From a seriously gooey toastie to golden cheese twists filled with black cheddar, here are two easy ways to enjoy it.
Charcoal Cheddar Cheese Twists
If you’re putting together a Halloween party spread, these are perfect for sharing.
Crisp puff pastry with melted black cheddar twisted through the middle — simple, but very effective.

You’ll need
- 1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry
- Charcoal Cheddar, grated
- 1 egg, beaten
- Black pepper
Method
Preheat your oven to 200°C / 180°C fan and line a baking tray.
Unroll the puff pastry and scatter the grated Charcoal Cheddar over one half.
Season with a little black pepper, then fold the other half of the pastry over the cheese.
Press down gently to help everything stay together.
Cut the pastry into strips, then take each strip at both ends and twist.
Place the twists onto your baking tray and brush lightly with beaten egg.
Bake for around 12–15 minutes, until puffed, crisp and golden.
Leave them to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy them as they are or serve with your favourite chutney or dip.
Charcoal Cheddar Toastie
Golden and crispy on the outside, black and gooey in the middle — this might be the most Halloween-looking toastie we’ve ever made.

You’ll need
- 2 slices of bread
- Charcoal Cheddar, grated
- Butter
Method
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Pile the grated Charcoal Cheddar onto one slice, then top with the second slice, keeping the buttered sides facing out.
Place the toastie in a frying pan over a medium-low heat and cook until golden underneath.
Flip and cook the other side until the bread is crisp and the cheese has melted.
Cut in half while warm and serve straight away.
Once cut open, the melted black Charcoal Cheddar gives this simple toastie a seriously striking finish.
Your Halloween Cheeseboard Sorted
Don’t fancy cooking?
Charcoal Cheddar also makes an easy addition to a Halloween cheeseboard. Slice it up and serve with crackers, chutney, grapes, cured meats and a mix of your favourite cheeses.
Its naturally dark colour gives the board an instant Halloween feel without needing much extra decoration.
So whether you’re putting together Halloween party food, upgrading your usual toastie or simply looking for something a little different, October’s Cheese of the Month has you covered.
