Christmas Cheese Hamper Guide: When to Buy, Order & Deliver
Share
A Christmas cheese hamper is a great gift for a cheese lover, but there is a little more to planning one than simply picking a few favourites and putting them in a box.
If you're organising your Christmas gifts in advance, you may be wondering how early you can buy the cheese, when the hamper should arrive and whether it will still be fresh for Christmas Day.
The good news is that Christmas cheese does not always need to be a last-minute purchase. With a little planning, you can order ahead, choose a suitable delivery date and avoid leaving everything until the busiest week of December.
Planning Your Christmas Cheese Hamper
The first thing to consider is when the hamper will actually be enjoyed.
A hamper being opened as an early Christmas gift may need to arrive at a different time from cheese being saved specifically for Christmas Day. Similarly, a hamper containing mostly long-dated Cheddar can often be planned further ahead than one containing cheeses with shorter shelf lives.
Once you know roughly when the cheese will be eaten, you can work backwards and decide when to order and when you would like it delivered.
If you're still deciding which cheeses to include, our What Cheese Can Go in a Christmas Hamper? guide covers festive cheese ideas in more detail.
When Should You Buy Cheese for Christmas?
You do not necessarily need to wait until December to buy cheese for Christmas.
The majority of Chuckling Cheese Cheddars come with around 3 to 9 months on their best-before date, while other cheeses vary. Once opened, we recommend consuming the cheese within 10 to 14 days.
This means many unopened Cheddar truckles can be bought well in advance of Christmas, as long as the best-before date comfortably covers when you plan to enjoy them and they are stored correctly.
How Far Ahead Can You Buy Christmas Cheese?
Rather than following one fixed date, think about what you're buying and how far ahead you're planning.
If you're shopping several months before Christmas, longer-dated Cheddars can be a useful option. Check the product page for any current date information before ordering, particularly if you are buying unusually early.
If you're shopping a few weeks before Christmas, you'll generally have more flexibility across different products while still avoiding the final Christmas rush.
If you're shopping close to Christmas, pay particular attention to the delivery cut-off rather than assuming an order placed at the last minute will arrive before Christmas Day.
The important point is that there is no need to wait simply for the sake of freshness if the cheese already has a suitable best-before date.
When Should Your Christmas Hamper Arrive?
For a hamper intended for Christmas Day, having it arrive a few days beforehand can be more practical. It gives time for the parcel to arrive, be unpacked and the cheese to be refrigerated properly without relying on a last-minute courier delivery.
If you are sending the hamper directly to somebody else, it is also worth choosing a date when they are likely to be available to receive it.
For hampers being delivered much earlier, check that the products have suitable best-before dates and can be stored correctly until they are needed.
Christmas 2026 Delivery Cut-Off
For Christmas 2026, the Chuckling Cheese delivery cut-off is:
11am on Wednesday 16th December 2026.
Orders placed after this time may not arrive in time for Christmas.
It is best to treat this as the final Christmas ordering cut-off, rather than the ideal date to place your order.
If you already know what you want, ordering earlier and selecting a preferred delivery date gives you more flexibility than waiting until the deadline.
What Should You Do When Your Cheese Arrives?
Once your Christmas cheese arrives, check the best-before date on the packaging and follow the storage instructions for each product.
Chuckling Cheese advises keeping cheese refrigerated at below 5°C. Waxed truckles are sealed to help preserve their flavour and moisture.
There is no need to turn this article into another full storage guide, though.

What Should Go in Your Christmas Hamper?
Once you've planned the timing, you can turn your attention to the fun part: choosing what goes inside.
Cheese should naturally be at the heart of the hamper, with extras such as crackers, chutneys, snacks or drinks depending on the person you're buying for.

Plan Ahead, Without Buying at the Last Minute
The main thing to remember is that Christmas cheese does not have to be bought at the last possible moment.
Many Chuckling Cheese Cheddars have a long enough best-before period to allow you to plan well ahead, while other cheeses may be better ordered closer to when they'll be enjoyed. Check the individual product information, choose a suitable delivery date and keep the Christmas cut-off in mind.
